Remember the fallen: Rotherham poppy day events

ROTHERHAM will remember the fallen with the town’s Mayor leading the borough’s annual remembrance tributes this coming week.

Two minutes’ silence in All Saints Square will mark the start of the Rotherham’s official acts of remembrance at 11am tomorrow ahead of Sunday’s Remembrance Sunday Parade.

Thursday’s special Armistice Day events have been organised by the Rotherham branch of the Royal British Legion.

It takes place at the same time as a special Fellowship of the Services Remembrance of the Fallen event in Clifton Park.

Leaving Clifton Park’s play area at 10.30am the Fellowship parade will make the short journey to the war memorial where a the group’s act of remembrance will take place at 11am.

Sunday’s Remembrance Day Parade, led by the South Yorkshire Police Band, will leave Effingham Street at 9.25am and will arrive at the Minster at 9.45am for the church service, led by the Rev Canon David Bliss.

The parade will then make its way to the wreath-laying service at the war memorial in Clifton Park, which is due to take place at 11am.

A final march will then take the parade past Rotherham Town Hall, where the Mayor and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant will take the salute.
