Regeneration plans unveiled for Swinton

NEW housing and revamped public spaces are included in regeneration plans for Swinton.

Rotherham Borough Council’s cabinet will meet next Monday to discuss whether a developer should be appointed to lead the project, which could involve up to 70 new homes.

The council said the “community-focused redevelopment” would begin with a masterplan being drawn up.

The village library, civic hall and the public spaces could all be revamped to create a “welcoming community hub”.

The area has a collection of vacant sites owned by the council as well as current community facilities, the authority said.

Cllr Denise Lelliott, the council’s cabinet member for jobs and the local economy, said: “If Cabinet approves the proposals, we can look forward to moving towards an exciting development that will not only create jobs, but will also create lasting benefit in terms of new homes and community facilities.”

If the plans are approved in principle, a development brief will be released in the spring, with development proposed to start at the end of next year.
