“Mr Universe was awesome and has given me my best placing to date,” he said.

“I’ve been training hard to reach this level, and after failing to place last year, it was amazing to gain third place this time round.

“It’s the pinnacle of my bodybuilding career.”

For Dan, this is another great win to add to his already-full belt of competition placings this year alone.

He has already gained wins in Class 1 at Mr Yorkshire, where he was also ranked as overall winner, Gary Lister Invitational Class, and both NABBA Mr England and NABBA Mr UK.

Dan trains six days a week in Ultra Gym at Parkgate, and has to be strict with his diet all year round to remain in the best shape possible.

He admitted it was hard to constantly measure out food portions while juggling a full-time job, but revealed he always enjoys a treat on special occasions - and said he will be tucking into his Christmas Day dinner guilt free.

Dan was keen to thank his training partners, Carl and Drew Walker, as well as his partner Laura Hall, for their support.

And he pledged to head back to Mr Universe again next year in a fresh bid to reach the top spot, with the ultimate dream of turning pro.
