The big-hearted group of friends are following in the footsteps of the Rylstone WI members made famous by a nude charity calendar by launching their own festive version.

Photographed by Shirley Sayles, the calendar features the so-called Thursday girls, who meet up every week to go out in Rawmarsh.

They are members of the MAD group—standing for Mums Against Duchenne—and stepped forward for their moment in the spotlight to support one of their members, Gail Fitzpatrick, whose 16-year-old son Josh is battling the terminal muscle-wasting disease.

Gail and her friend Jeanette Ventura have already taken on the challenge of a 10,000ft skydive in aid of the charity Action Duchenne and more friends jumped at the chance to support the charity by posing for portraits.

Shirley said it was vital to raise more awareness of Duchenne's, which affects about 1,500 boys with the disorder living in the UK at any one time.

"By age eight to 11, boys become unable to walk and by their late teens or twenties the condition is severe enough to shorten life expectancy," she added.

"There are, however, many forms of management which are now available, which have changed the outlook and which we believe in most cases can help with the complications of the condition."

The calendar girls have been sponsored by Cottage Fires in Wentworth, Relax hair studio in Kilnhurst Road, Rawmarsh and Ventura Chapman Mechanical Services. Relax and Cottage Fires are also selling the calendar, priced £5, along with the Horse and Jockey pub in Rawmarsh and the Action Duchenne online shop at actionduchenne.org/shop.
