Rapist caged for attack on pensioner

A HOME intruder who subjected an 89-year-old woman to a vicious rape has been sentenced to 13-and-a-half years in prison.

Anthony Borrowdale (56) of Copeland Road, Wombwell, broke into a house at around 11pm on June 1, turned off the lights and threw the lone occupant to the floor before assaulting her.

The victim screamed for help but was not heard by neighbours and was not able to sound her emergency alarm until the attack was over.

Borrowdale was traced after forensics officers examined the crime scene.

He was arrested and admitted rape at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday, November 1.

DC Chris Horsley said: “Thankfully this type of crime is very rare and it is good news that this dangerous man will be spending a considerable amount of time behind bars.”
