Quad bike cops go off-road after bikers

POLICE have a new weapon in the battle against nuisance bikers—an off-road quad bike

The Wentworth North Safer Neighbourhood Team have acquired the Kymco 400cc MXU to help tackle crime and antisocial behaviour in the Wath area -- and illegal bikers are at the top of their list of potential targets.

The vehicle was donated to South Yorkshire Police by Kymco UK and will be ridden by Pc Craig White and Pc Brett Thompson, who have received specialist training in the art of quad bike control.

Pc White said: “The bike will allow us access to otherwise inaccessible parts of the community and also extends the capability of how we respond to antisocial behaviour and calls about nuisance vehicles.”

Ian Kidson, the managing director at Kymco's UK distributor MASCO Limited said: “Kymco UK is pleased to support Wentworth North SNT with the donation of this ATV.

“The MXU400 road legal quad is a great looking machine.

“It provides the team with an innovative alternative mode of transport and a new way of engaging with the local community.”

The new police quad bike will be part of a series of visits to schools designed to show teenagers the quad bike and highlight the dangers and consequences of illegal off-road biking and antisocial behaviour.
