Pupils create snowflake wall for battling Jude

STUDENTS who sponsored a snowflake last year in honour of a classmate fighting cancer went even better this year by creating their own snowflake wall.

Thorpe Hesley Primary School’s new decorations are a show of support for Jude Hawkridge, who has spent much of the past 20 months having treatment for leukaemia.

Operation Snowflake has expanded beyond the school grounds and into the village’s streets, where blue bows have been tied outside homes to indicate solidarity with the brave youngster.

Jude’s mum Jo said he had been touched to see all the snowflakes and bows on display, adding: “We’d like to thank everyone for purchasing snowflakes and blue bows for Operation Snowflake.

“He couldn't believe the bows when we arrived home from hospital and said: ‘All this for me’.

“We feel so supported as a family by the school and the community.”

Money raised by Operation Snowflake will go to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, where the school sponsored a large snowflake last year as part of the hospital’s festival appeal.

The school’s own snowflake decorations, which have been painted blue — Jude’s favourite colour — by pupils, and sponsored by families, will remain in place until February.

Office manager Katie Dawson said: “We really wanted to show Jude and his family how much they are loved and how many people are supporting them throughout this terrible time.”
