Probe follows factory ‘blast’ at Rotherham plastics firm

SAFETY inspectors are investigating after a man was seriously injured in an “explosion” at a Rotherham factory.

Police confirmed that the Health and Safety Executive had been informed about an accident at Rotherham Industrial Plastic Co on Clifton Terrace at 3.45pm on May 19.

“Officers attended and one man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but not thought to be life threatening,” said a spokesperson.

A source told the Advertiser there had been an explosion at the premises and the injured man had been taken to the Northern General Hospital, where he had spent time in intensive care.

RIPCO director Steve Sykes declined to comment.

A spokesperson for the HSE said they were “aware of the incident and making enquiries”.
