The national chain said the former BHS unit on Parkgate was 10,000 sq ft bigger than its current High Street branch.

The Advertiser reported on the plans last week and a Primark spokeswoman said the move would take place “either at the very end of this year or the beginning of next year”.

A Primark spokeswoman said: “We are growing our retail space by over 10,000 sq ft — this will enable us to offer our customers a better shopping experience with a wider range of our amazing fashion at amazing prices in our latest contemporary store fit.”

Parkgate Shopping said as well as the Primark store, it will also open a Costa Coffee drive-thru and branches of Holland and Barrett and Shoezone on the complex over the next year.
