Pregnant woman trapped in lift by power cut

A POWER cut has plunged parts of the town centre into darkness.

A pregnant woman in her 20s was left trapped in a lift in the Imperial buildings and businesses were forced to go without power following the cut shortly after midday today.

One resident of the Imperial Buildings suggested that the power had failed due to an electricity cable being cut to the rear of the KFC restaurant on Corporation Street.

He said: “I was told that someone had cut a cable and that an ambulance had gone to the scene.

“The power cut left a pregnant woman trapped in the lift in the Imperial Buildings for almost half an hour.

“It was only thanks to a passer-by, who had a key from their meter box at home, that we were able to let her out.”

The pregnant woman thanked her rescuers before recovering from her ordeal on a bench near Rotherham Minster.

Enquiries are ongoing into the exact causes of the power cut.
