Positive response to Eastwood over-50s keep fit sessions

Volunteering Matters is running the weekly classes for older Eastwood residents at the newly-named Aslamiyya Centre on Fitzwilliam Road - previously known as Eastwood Methodist Chapel.

NEW keep fit sessions for the over-50s are going from strength to strength.

Mark Hible, project co-ordinator for the Sporting Chance Sheffield project, said it was a response to very few men-only activities being available.

“I am delighted with the enthusiasm shown by the elders of the centre and the class instructor in spreading the word about these sessions,” he said.

“So far we have had an excellent response and we would like to welcome more participants from across the community.”

Class instructor Raja Khan added: “I strongly believe in the benefits of exercise and healthy eating and it is fantastic to see the improvement in the men’s fitness and wellbeing once they have attended a few sessions.”

The classes, which welcome residents from across the borough and from all backgrounds and religions, run every Tuesday from 11am until noon and include a healthy snack and cup of tea at the end of the session.
