Positive parenting pointers for mums and dads

PARENTS of pupils at a Rotherham school have completed a course to help combat behavioural problems.

The Time Out for Parents course for parents of nursery-age children ran for six weeks and ended with the presentation of certificates by the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Shaun Wright.

By making a positive change to their parenting style, the 24 parents involved at Kiveton Park Infants hoped to help children from the youngest age possible.

The scheme addressed parenting styles such as dealing with problem behaviour and sleep and mealtime routines.

Foundation One teacher Rachel Idell, who ran the course, said: “Making changes at home, where pupils spend most of their time, will make a big difference to attitudes while at school.

“The parents have been courageous, commited and have shown great perseverance in reducing barriers to learning within school.

“The scheme is a partnership between parents and staff, which I hope to continue in the future.”

The scheme is set to run on an annual basis, helping new parents to tackle similar issues.
