Poppy Appeal collection tin stolen in one of two Swinton shop burglaries

BURGLARS broke into two shops in the space of four nights.

Raiders stole a Poppy Appeal collection tin during a break-in at Jackie’s Something Special, Church Street, Swinton, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident came after animal rescue charity shop Barnsley Animal Rescue Centre (BARC), on Station Street, was targeted on Thursday — the second such incident in just just five months.

A police spokeswoman said Jackie’s Something Special had been broken into at some point between 10.30pm on Saturday and 8.50am on Sunday and BARC between 11pm on Thursday, November 9 and 5am on Friday, November 10.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 291 of November 12 for Jackie’s Something Special or incident number 126 for November 10 for BARC.
