'Political thugs' in violent attack on Lord Ahmed

POLICE are investigating a street attack on Rotherham peer Lord Ahmed and two of his colleagues.

Lord Ahmed was unhurt, but journalist Muzha Bukhari was knocked unconscious and senior Pakistani politician Dr Zulfiqar Mirza was punched in the face by yobs wielding iron bars.

The three men were on their way to a TV studio in Manchester when the attack happened.

Lord Ahmed fears the attack was politically motivated as Dr Mirza was due to speak out against the Pakistani government at the event in Cheetham Hill.

Lord Ahmed also helped police with their inquiries into the murder of a Pakistani politician last year.

He says that he has been advised to improve his personal security and he has cancelled a trip to Pakistan.
