The force said there would be an increased presence in the area to provide reassurance and gather information.

There was a report of a man in a black car behaving suspiciously at Sycamore Avenue, Wickersley, at about 11am last Wednesday (30).

He is said to have asked a passing 17-year-old girl to approach his car. She did not go near the vehicle and he left.

A police spokeswoman said: “An investigation has been launched and there is an increased police presence in the local community to provide reassurance and gather information.

“Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage and working to identify the vehicle and its occupant(s).

“If you live locally and hold CCTV footage, or were travelling in the area and hold dash-cam footage, please get in touch with police.”

Anyone who holds information is also asked to call 101 quoting incident 280 of September 30.
