POLICE swooped on an alleged burglar yesterday afternoon (Thursday) in the middle of a busy shopping precinct.

The 38-year-old man, wanted on suspicion of a number of burglaries, was arrested by officers at around 3pm on Thursday near Tan-Inn on the junction of Queen Street and Station Street in Swinton.

A video shared on Facebook by an eye-witness of the police activity has been viewed more than 21,000 times.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the man remained in custody on Friday afternoon.
