Police roadshow hits Rotherham town centre

ROTHERHAM town centre will be the final stop for a successful police roadshow on Wednesday.

Officers have set up stands at shopping centres across South Yorkshire in the past few weeks, allowing the public to voice their opinions about policing and anti-social behaviour.

The roadshow will come to All Saints Square between 10am and 2pm.

Community engagement officer Tracy Webster said: “It’s vitally important that the people of South Yorkshire, as investors in policing via their council tax, have a say in how they are policed.

“The roadshows have once again proved popular with people of all ages.

“A boy out shopping with his grandma in Barnsley was keen to share with me his knowledge of Safer Neighbourhood Teams.

“He told me how his local SNT had worked hard to reduce anti social behaviour and clean up graffiti and litter in his local park. His mum was now happy to let him to play there again.”

Another topic on which the force is keen to sound out public opinion is restorative justice—where the victims of minor crimes meet with the offender and an officer to agree how amends can be made.

Tracy said: “The police authority is the link between local people and South Yorkshire Police and we have a responsibility to obtain the views of the public on the service they receive.”
