Police patrols stepped up after ‘men with air rifles’ on school field

POLICE patrols were stepped up around a secondary school today (Monday) after two men with air rifles were seen on the site.

Officers attended Laurel Academy in Maple Road, Mexborough, just before noon after the men were seen on the school field and the public footpath that borders the site

“The men had two small dogs with them and it is alleged they had air rifles, suspected to be shooting wildlife,” said a police spokeswoman.

“There was no threat or injury to anybody at the school. Officers attended the school, but the men had already left.

"They have searched the area and extra patrols have been conducted around the school.”
