Police officers hurt in crash at Carr Forge Lane in Sheffield.

A DRIVER has been arrested after two police officers were hurt when a car failed to stop for a roadside check.

The first officer was hurt when a grey Volvo fled Meadowhall Retail Park shortly before 6.30am on Sunday.

The 47-year-old PC suffered minor injuries and was taken to Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, before being allowed home.

A police spokeswoman said the Volvo again failed to stop when later spotted by traffic officers on the M1, leading to a pursuit on the A57 in Swallownest and Mossway.

It collided with the police car, a white BMW with its blue lights on, at Carr Forge Lane in Sheffield.

The police car’s driver, a 49-year-old male officer, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Rotherham Hospital.

The Volvo was driven towards Birley Spa Lane before going off road and being abandoned by two men.

After a search of the area, a 21-year-old man from Woodhouse Mill, Sheffield, was arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft and failing to stop. He was bailed until November.
