The Sheffield-based officer also admitted failing to challenge inappropriate comments made by his colleagues in the group chat.

The officer was given “management advice” after an independent chief inspector found the matter amounted to misconduct at an internal meeting held this month.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman confirmed the other officers involved in the group chat were being investigated.

The force refused to reveal the nature of the comments or how many police officers were involved due to the "ongoing live investigations".
