Police issue burglary warning

POLICE are urging residents to beware of burglars after two men were arrested for break-ins at Clifton and Herringthorpe.

John Baker (28), of The Lanes, Herringthorpe and Daniel Miller (31), of Park Mount, Clifton will appear at Sheffield Crown Court later this year charged with stealing electrical items from Rotherham homes.

Officers have issued safety advice for homeowners, such as installing good quality locks on doors or windows and using them even if away from home for only a short time.

A police spokesman also recommended using burglar alarms, keeping keys safely away from doors and windows and not answering the door to unexpected callers.

Timer switches on lights can make homes seem occupied when occupants are away, he added.

In the garden, ladders and tools which could be used to access the house should be kept under lock and key.

Police are also urging anyone with information about crime in their community to contact them on non-emergency number 101, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
