POLICE are investigating a second shooting incident in Rotherham within a matter of hours.
Officers were called to Flanderwell Lane in Sunnyside at 12.35am today (Tuesday) and found a man with a suspected gunshot injury to his leg.
The 29-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment, a police spokeswoman said.
Flanderwell Lane is closed while officers carry out initial enquiries to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident, she added.
The spokeswoman said: “An investigation is in its early stages and anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 23 of March 3.”
The shooting was reported just 12-and-a-half hours after a man was reportedly shot and stabbed in the Clough Road area of Thornhill. Two men are believed to have left the scene on foot, police said.
The 22-year-old man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his thigh and knife wounds to his torso.
A spokeswoman said he remained in hospital in a stable condition.
Detectives this morning appealed for witnesses to the incident, which was reported at 2pm, and said they were looking at CCTV from the area and carrying out extra patrols.
Det Insp Janine Broughton said: “The investigation is in the early stages, but our priority is to speak to anyone who was on Clough Road, or in the surrounding area, between 1.50pm and 2.30pm yesterday afternoon.
“Did you see anything unusual or suspicious during that time period? If so, please contact us immediately as your information may help us with our investigation.
“We have increased police patrols in the area, and you will see extra officers as we carry out enquiries, examine the scene and gather CCTV footage.”
All information can be reported via 101 using incident number 454 of March 2 and dashcam footage can be emailed to email@example.com using the same incident number.
