A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “This particular driver has been reported on summons to go court in the near future to explain his actions to a magistrate.

“We expect that there will be some quite serious consequences for his driving licence.”

They added: “We understand that nobody wants to be fined and have points on their licence for going ‘a bit over’ the speed limit.

“We also know from tragic experience that people don’t intend to injure or even kill another person in most cases.

“The simple fact of the matter however, is that the faster you go, the less time you have to react to what is happening in front of you and the harder you hit it. That’s why speeding is one of the ‘Fatal4’ offences that are most often a cause of a serious or fatal collision.

“What would happen if someone or something stepped in front of a car travelling at 94mph doesn’t bear thinking about.”
