Police called after shots fired at Rotherham's Wharncliffe flats

POLICE were called to reports of shots being fired at the Wharncliffe flats near Rotherham town centre.

A police cordon was set up last night (Monday) after the 8pm incident and remained at Holywell Place this morning.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “It is reported that a 31-year-old man presented at an address after suffering a minor head wound believed to be consistent with firearms discharge.

“Officers attended the scene and the man was taken to hospital via ambulance. He has since been discharged.”

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I was just putting a pizza in for tea, when I heard a motorbike revving, then a shotgun going off and the bike sped off.”

Police said enquiries were ongoing to locate the people involved.
