Police brave 'The Beast' to complete day of action
PCSOs Abby Grzesiek and Niall Ellison on patrol in Rotherham.

THE Beast from the East didn't stop police officers raiding homes and making several arrests as the icy weather system bore down on Yorkshire.

Last Wednesday, staff seized suspected stolen items from Dovercourt Road Kimberworth, including two knives, five power tools and a television.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate the owners, said a South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman.

Elsewhere, Leslie Emery, (40) of no fixed address, was charged with being drunk and disorderly in Rotherham town centre.

He appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (March 1) where he pleaded guilty and was given a day’s detention.

A 36-year-old man from Masbrough, wanted for failing to appear at court, was arrested on suspicion of theft and taken to Sheffield Magistrates’ Court.

A 46-year-old man from Holmes, wanted for the same offences, received the same treatment.

Insp Jenny Lax said: “The snow may have slowed us down a little, but our officers are committed to policing the streets of Rotherham and we were still able to see some positive results from last week’s day of action.

“We will continue to hold action days throughout the borough focusing on different areas and responding to the issues raised with us by members of the community.

“The key to effective policing is engaging with the public as your views are vital to the work that we do.”
