Police ask motorists to request help if they need it after car was left dumped on central barrier

POLICE who found a car abandoned on a central barrier on a snowy Dearne Valley Parkway yesterday (Thursday) have asked motorists to ask for help if they need it.

A Volkswagen (pictured) was left dumped in the middle of the road, which was badly affected by the snow yesterday, facing oncoming traffic just after a roundabout.

Motorists were warned to avoid Dearne Valley Parkway yesterday after lorries became stuck in the snow, however, the road has since re-opened.

South Yorkshire Police's Operational Support Team, who discovered the abandoned Volkeswagen, said: "They didn’t bother to ring us and tell us that there might be a problem.

"They didn’t even leave a note.

"They just left the car unlocked and wandered off into the cold night, apparently hoping that other motorists would see it in time and wouldn’t smash into it.

"We clearly couldn’t leave there in that state, so we had it recovered as an abandoned vehicle – because it had been.

"We understand that lots of people found themselves stuck in motoring situations they didn’t want to be in over the last day, but if you need help, particularly if it means your car is left looking it’s part of the aftermath of some Hollywood action film, please let us know."

The team said that even a note in the window would help officers know that someone was OK and could provide a way for them to contact a vehicle's owner if they needed to.
