Police were called to the post office on Market Street at 10am after a man wearing a ski mask entered the premises and demanded an employee empty the till, a police spokeswoman said.

"When they refused, the offender fled and was pursued on foot by a member of the public who was then threatened with a knife," she added.

"The suspect fled in the direction of Beever Street."

Police are appealing for the public's help to trace the suspect.

He is thought to be white, around 5ft 10ins and is reported to have been wearing a ski mask with a white lipstick print on the back, an orange shirt and light blue tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with information should contact the police on 101, quoting incident number 219 of August 8.
