Plug pulled on Rotherham Christmas lights switch-on due to wet and windy weather

WET and windy weather has led to organisers pulling the plug on tonight’s Christmas lights switch-on in Rotherham.

Singer-songwriter Lauren Housley, Hyde Park Brass, the Halo Glow Show and stars of this year’s panto were all on the bill for the event in All Saints’ Square from 5.30pm.

But just under an hour before the event, Rotherham Council confirmed it had been postponed due to the wet and windy weather.

The council tweeted: “Due to the high winds and poor weather conditions it is with regret that this evening’s Christmas Light Switch On will be cancelled.

“We apologise for any upset this may cause — however, the health and safety of our performers, residents and visitors is our first priority.”

No details have been given about when the event could now be held.
