Plan to revamp busy Rotherham town centre street

LANDSCAPING works will revamp an area at the bottom of Corporation Street in Rotherham town centre.

The scheme, to be funded by the Department for Transport, will include new pedestrian crossings near the County pub.

The aim will also be to make the area more cycle-friendly with bike stands and storage, while extra drainage will be added to reduce flooding problems.

Damien Wilson, Rotherham Borough Council’s director for regeneration and environment, said: “This will have a positive effect on the street scene, creating a brighter, more open and accessible space.

“We hope this work, coupled with the progress being made on the nearby derelict buildings, will enhance this busy part of the town centre.”

Five trees next to the Scala car park will be replaced during the works.
