TRAGIC Millers fan Danny Dix was the toast of the town after a brewery produced a special ale in his memory.

Danny’s family were the guests of honour and were invited to try the first pints of One for Dixie Rock and Roll Star beer at the pub, created specially by Chantry Brewery.

Danny's brother Simon Dix said: “It’s a pale ale, which is nice, smooth and very pleasant — just like Danny, although he was probably more of a lager man if I’m honest.

“It was quite a surreal night, especially when so many scooters turned up outside my house to pick me up.

“The whole event was just amazing and it means so much to the family how people have come together.

“It’s clear he was loved by so many people and what’s happened to him has affected so many. I’ve had messages from all over, including from people I don’t know.”

A raffle was held on the night and special patches featuring Danny, who lived in Munsbrough, on his Lambretta were sold to raise cash for the Rotherham fan’s funeral and support his nine-year-old daughter, Freya.

Further fundraising events are planned, beginning with a football match at Millmoor Juniors’ Grange Park at 1pm on Saturday. (13)

Danny died on March 16 — a week after being attacked in Bridgegate on his way home from watching his beloved Rotherham United on TV.

Five people have been arrested and police said enquiries were ongoing.
