A distinctive turquoise pillowcase may hold a clue after the thief entered the 66-year-old’s property on Fitzwilliam Street and stole several antique watches and a considerable amount of old, gold and silver jewellery.

Items were removed in the pillowcase after the burglary, which happened sometime between 5.30pm, Wednesday March 30 and 3pm, Sunday April 3.

Several notable items taken include a gold signet style ring with the initials 'F' and 'S' intertwined, which belonged to the 66-year-old victim's grandfather and two gold sapphire and diamond rings.

A man's gold rimmed Seiko watch with three dials and brown leather strap was also stolen, along with an man's antique watch with a pale gold rectangular face and gold surround, which belonged to the victim's late father.

Police believe the thief used a distinctive “bright” turquoise pillowcase, taken from the victim's home, to remove the items from the property.
