Pillion passenger breaks back in motorcycle smash

A MOTORCYCLIST and his pillion passenger were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash in Wath.

Police said a blue Ford Ka was turning right from Doncaster Road into Old Doncaster Road, Wath, when it collided with the black Suzuki GSXR 1000.

The rider, a 22-year-old man from Mexborough, suffered serious lower back and internal injuries and was taken to Rotherham Hospital.

His passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Mexborough, was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General with serious back fractures.

The incident happened at 1pm yesterday next to Staithes pub.

Anyone who saw the crash, or either vehicle just before the impact, is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident 480 of April 24.
