Two fire crews from Rotherham station dealt with the grass blaze, off Mountenoy Road.

They were there for about half an hour after receiving the call at 5.20pm.

Fans leaving the Rotherham United match reported seeing the fire from inside New York Stadium.

A fire service spokeswoman confirmed that the incident was recorded as deliberate.

In Thurnscoe, a Seat Leon was set alight on Lancaster Street at about 2.50am this morning (Monday).
