Petrol station cafe "will create 30 jobs"

A PETROL station and coffee shop at the site of a former car dealership will create 30 jobs, according to plans.

Euro Garages’ proposals would see the redevelopment of the former Toyota Riverside site at the Ickles roundabout.

Plans filed with Rotherham Council say the new business would be open 24 hours a day and include a drive-thru for the coffee shop. A statement from the applicant’s agents Atticus Planning said: “Within the petrol station building there will be an ancillary retail store, three food-to-go units along with back-of-house space. The coffee shop is proposed to the south of the petrol station.

“The development seeks to redevelop a brownfield site into a modern, fresh development which will serve as a boost to the local economy and generally improve the visual appearance of the immediate surrounding area.

“In terms of the environment, the proposals involve a significant increase in the amount and quality of new soft, native landscape features which the site currently lacks, thus improving the quality of the natural environment and encouraging biodiversity.”

The car dealership closed in October 2021.
