Pensioner to stand trial over historic child sex offences

A TRIAL date has been set for a pensioner accused of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl in the 1990s.

Barrie English (72), of Cedar Avenue, Alsager, Stoke-on-Trent, is due to stand trial at Sheffield Crown Court on May 4 accused of seven child sex offences in Rotherham.

He denied all of the offences, said to have taken place between December 1995 and July 1996, at a hearing at the crown court today (Friday).

English is accused of one count of attempted rape, two counts of indecency with a child and four counts of indecent assault.

All of the offences are alleged to have been committed against the same 11-year-old girl in Rotherham.

English was released on bail.
