Pensioner left with potentially life-threatening injuries after collision in Wombwell

A PENSIONER who was loading items into the boot of his vehicle has been left with potentially life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car.

Emergency services were called to Melville Street, Wombwell, at 10.30am on Saturday to reports that a car had collided with a 75-year-old man, a police spokeswoman said.

The 83-year-old woman driving a silver Vauxhall Astra was attempting to park behind the man's Hyundai i10, close to the junction with High Street, when her car collided with him, the spokeswoman said.

"The man was at the time attempting to load items into the boot of the Hyundai," she said.

"The Astra has then also collided with a wall and the front door of a house on the street.

"The man was taken to hospital, where he currently remains, with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries. 

"No one else was injured in the incident."

Officers want to speak to anyone who saw what happened or who may have dashcam footage of the incident. 

Any witnesses should call 101 quoting incident number 338 of June 29.
