Pensioner cut from car after A57 collision

A PENSIONER was seriously hurt when a collision involving a Land Rover left him trapped inside his car.

Police believe that the 65-year-old, from Anston lost control of his Kia hatchback as he left the A57 roundabout, above junction 31 of the M1, before crossing the grassed central reservation and colliding with the oncoming 4x4 near to the junction with Worksop Road, Aston.

Firefighters cut the pensioner from his vehicle following the incident, which happened at 10.43am on Wednesday (17), before he was was transported to Rotherham General Hospital with fractures to his ribs and collar bone.

The Land Rover driver, a 64-year-old woman from Ridgeway, Sheffield, escaped uninjured.

Investigating officers from South Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision.
