Pedestrian (75) killed in collision with suspected drink-driver in Sprotbrough

A PEDESTRIAN (75) has died after being hit by a suspected drink-driver in Sprotbrough on Saturday.

A Land Rover Discovery, travelling towards Melton, collided with a Ford Transit van travelling in the direction of Doncaster on Melton Road shortly before 4pm, a police spokeswoman said.

It is believed the Land Rover collided with a passing pedestrian near the junction with Park Drive, she added.

"Despite the best efforts of a member of the public to save him, the 75-year-old pedestrian sadly died at the scene," said the spokeswoman.

"His family are now being supported by specialist officers and we ask that their privacy be respected at this incredibly difficult time."

The 29-year-old man who was driving the Land Rover was detained by police under suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving over the prescribed limit of alcohol. He remains in police custody.

Enquiries are continuing and police would like to speak to anyone who saw the manner of driving of either vehicle in the time leading up to the incident, anyone who saw the incident or who has dashcam footage of it.
