Paul Warne's fitness update on Rotherham United's missing men

The Millers went two points clear at the summit of the table by seeing off the challenge of Burton Albion 3-1 at AESSEAL New York Stadium yesterday when they were without the services of Mickel Miller, Wes Harding and Will Grigg.

Boss Paul Warne, is confident all three will be available for next Saturday's trip to Cambridge United where his side will seek to extend their club-record unbeaten run to 21 games.

Wing-back Miller was the only one to miss out against Burton through injury. Defender Harding was suffering from illness while striker Grigg wasn't considered for selection after becoming a father again in the build-up to the clash.

"Mickel's issue is not serious," Warne said. "His groin just felt tight so we didn't risk him. There's no point harping on about having a good squad and then not using it.

"I don't think it's a drama at all. He might even train on Monday. He should be right for Cambridge."

The 26-year-old had initially been named on the bench but in a late switch his place went to Tolaji Bola.

Harding doesn't have Covid, his manager confirmed, and is scheduled to return to the club's Roundwood base tomorrow or Tuesday.

"He's just ill," Warne said. "You're allowed to be ill these days without it being the big one. He just doesn't feel great."

Grigg was at New York yesterday afternoon to watch Rotherham seal their latest win through goals by Freddie Ladapo 2 and Dan Barlaser. He trained before the match but had been excused Thursday and Friday group sessions, which ruled him out of contention.

"His partner had their fourth child on Wednesday," Warne said. "Because of that, I let him have some time with his family."

Wing-back Chiedozie Ogbene was among the substitutes because the Millers didn't want him starting three matches in nine days on a heavy pitch.

After a run of Tuesday matches, Rotherham have a free week to prepare for their visit to Cambridge's Abbey Stadium.

"I'm really pleased that we haven't got a midweek game," Warne said. "We're all shattered, truth be told."
