Patients given a say in Stag surgery's services

ONE of the town’s largest GP practices has launched a new group to involve patients more in decisions about its services.

The newly-formed Patient Participation Group serving The Stag Medical Centre and Rose Court Surgery, Wickersley, aims to improve communication between the practice and its 11,000 patients.

Changes have already been requested by patients and the improvements already made include an improved on-line prescription service and the replacement of the 0845 telephone number by a local or free phone number.

The group, which meets monthly, will also have a role in the new Clinical Commissioning Group for Rotherham, giving the patients’ perspective on the quality and provision of services.

A PPG open day was due to be held tomorrow to coincide with flu clinics at the practice.

PPG chairman Jenny Drew, said: “The group is really gathering momentum. As well as around 15 group members who meet face to face on a monthly basis, we have an email list of over 60 members of a virtual PPG as well.

“The aim of the open days is to reach as many of the practice population as we can and tell them about the work of the group.”

Practice manager, Chris Thompson, said: “What the group has achieved so far is admirable and we want to provide support for other GP practices endeavouring to do the same thing.”
