Parish council by-election to be held in Whiston this week

A PARISH council by-election to fill two empty seats in Whiston will be held this week.

Village residents will be invited to vote in the election to fill two vacancies on Whiston Parish Council on Thursday, December 13.

The vacancies arose due to the resignation of David Bridge and Robert Brown in September.

For Whiston residents wishing to vote in person, the polling stations will be held at Whiston Junior and Infant School, Whiston Worrygoose School, and Whiston Parish Hall. All polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm on Thursday.

Eligible voters will not receive a poll card at this election. Instead, Whiston residents simply need to visit their local polling station and state their name and address which will then be checked against the electoral register by election staff.

Poll cards are not a legal requirement at parish elections and the decision not to issue them for this election was taken by the parish council to save money. Postal votes were sent out on December 3.

The candidates are as follows;

Zachary Collingham - Conservative

Clive Davis - Independent

Matthew Eyre - Conservative

Tony Griffin - Labour

Colin Taylor - Liberal Democrat

David Wilson - Liberal Democrat
