Paramedic “seriously injured” after ambulance crash in Rotherham

A PARAMEDIC was “seriously injured” after the ambulance they were travelling in on the way to an emergency incident was in collision with a car at the weekend. 

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Emergency services were called at 10.21am on Saturday, July 23 following reports of a collision on Herringthorpe Valley Road, Rotherham.

“It is reported that an ambulance and a blue Mercedes were involved in the collision, at the junction with Mowbray Street.

“A paramedic inside the ambulance is understood to have suffered serious injuries and the road was closed to allow emergency services to respond.”

The road later re-opened at around 1pm, the spokesperson added.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: “The ambulance involved in a collision with a car on Herringthorpe Valley Road, Rotherham on Saturday morning was on its way to an emergency incident.  

“Another ambulance was dispatched to the original emergency.

“One member of the ambulance crew was injured and conveyed to hospital.” 

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Crews from Rotherham, Maltby and Aston Park attended an RTC (road traffic collision) involving two vehicles on Herringthorpe Valley Road, Herringthorpe, Rotherham after receiving a call at 10.20am.  

“One man was rescued from one of the vehicles and received treatment from paramedics. 

“Firefighters had left the scene by 11.12am.”
