He had admitted assault and class B drugs offences at an earlier hearing.

Also jailed was a 16-year-old Doncaster boy, who cannot be named, after he admitted wounding with intent and was given four-and-a-half years in prison plus an additional two on licence.

The incident happened on Wath Road at 2.45pm on May 31. The 23-year-old male victim saw Boswell, who he knew, and crossed the road to speak to him.

A police spokesman said: “The teenage boy came up behind the victim and spun him around, stabbing him under the arm, near his stomach and in his thigh. The wounds required surgery to stem the bleeding.”

Investigating officer Det Con Jane Keightley said: “It is a priority for officers working in Doncaster to ensure that weapons such as the knife used during this attack are taken off the streets, and those who think it’s acceptable to carry them are dealt with using the full force of the law.

“Knife crime can have life-changing consequences for victims and their families, with some incidents sadly proving fatal.

“We will not stand for individuals choosing to carry knives to cause harm or injury to others in South Yorkshire.”
