Sgt Jonathan Sorsby of the Rotherham Central Neighbourhoods Team, said officers were called out to Wortley Road at around 10.30pm on Wednesday night, following reports of a suspected burglary - but instead discovered 147 cannabis plants.

He added: "We were called out to reports of a disturbance and a possible brea- in when we came across the cannabis plants, which were infested with red spiders and midges.

"Due to the infestation, officers wore protective suits to dismantle the set up, with help from Rotherham Council colleagues.

"No arrests have been made at this time and enquiries are ongoing."
