Outspoken dragon returns to Rotherham next week

DRAGON’S Den star Rachel Elnaugh who caused controversy with her anti-Rotherham blog will return to the town next week to show support for the Conservatives.

The fiery former dragon caused a stir when she launched a tirade on the town because of an unhappy trip to a Rotherham “greasy spoon.”

The entrepreneur, who appeared on the popular BBC show until her own business crashed, published a no-holds-barred rant on her online blog condemning staff at a cafe in Rotherham town centre for asking her to switch off her laptop.

Next Tuesday (27), in a move to back Conservative parliamentary candidate Jackie Whiteley, Miss Elnaugh will meet both Mrs Whiteley and the Leader of the Rotherham Conservative Group, Cllr John Gilding at the Riverside Cafe, the target of the infamous blog post about the lack of enterprise culture in Rotherham.

Rachel said: "Rotherham sadly reflects the situation in many UK high streets where out of town shopping malls have destroyed local business.

“Rotherham needs to re-create a prosperous town centre reflecting its unique character and rich history.

“It needs to give shoppers a reason to come into the town centre."

Jackie Whiteley, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Rotherham, added: "We need to build on the good work already done and to drive forward the regeneration of Rotherham, to raise civic pride and a sense of community and also to promote and develop Rotherham Town Centre as a good investment opportunity.

“It's our pledge to regenerate Rotherham - and to have the expertise of Rachel with her energy, enthusiasm and contacts marks a significant development towards regenerating the town centre."
