Out-of-contract Jamie Lindsay on his Rotherham United future

The midfielder is coming to the end of his contract and has admirers elsewhere but is keen to stay at AESSEAL New York Stadium and be part of the Millers’ effort to consolidate their place in the Championship following their promotion from League One this term.

“I hope to be here next season,” he said. “I’m happy here and I love the boys.”

The 26-year-old, who counts Portsmouth among his suitors, is a proven force in the second tier, having been the Millers’ best performer two years ago before being sidelined by a hamstring tear.

Rotherham can activate a 12-month option in their player’s present deal if they want to but would prefer to broke a new long-term agreement.

League One Pompey showed interest in the Scot in the January transfer window and haven’t ruled out making a summer bid for his services.

Lindsay has notched up a century of Millers appearances since his 2019 switch from Ross County but found game-time hard to come by this season after suffering a late-September hamstring injury.

Of his 35 outings only 15 have been league starts for a man who cost the club around £200,000 when he moved south of the border.

“I’ve had a good three years, although this one hasn’t been the best personally,” he said. “Every player wants to play games. It was tough for the gaffer to put me back in because of how well the team were doing.

“At the end of the day, it’s a team game. I understood that me not being selected was part and parcel of that.”

Rotherham boss Paul Warne has been talking to several members of his squad about contracts this week.
