Operational changes at 'over-stretched' Wath foodbank

AN OVER-stretched foodbank is changing how it operates due to high demand.

Wath Community Foodbank will now only be able to support a client for six weeks, instead of continually.

Volunteer Jacqueline Oliver said the change would mean the foodbank’s system was similar to others in the area.

She said: “Because we have got so busy, we will be supporting a client for six weeks only, starting from January.

“There will be no waiting list and we will no longer be able to support a client continually like we have previously as the service is stretched to capacity.”

The foodbank, which runs every Tuesday between 12.30-1.30pm from Wath Montgomery Hall, is operated solely by volunteers. It is supported by Fareshare, The James Montgomery Academy Trust and members of the local community, and is aimed at vulnerable families and individuals.

Ms Oliver added foodbank collections in local supermarkets did not come directly to the Wath foodbank and if residents wanted to help, the best way to contribute was to donate via Montgomery Hall or All Saints’ Wath Parish Church.

Goods which are always needed include tinned meat products, UHT milk and household cleaning products.

Monetary donations can also be made by emailing [email protected] for further details.
