On-the-whistle report: Rotherham United 2 Leicester City 2

In their final dress rehearsal before the August 3 trip to AFC Wimbledon, the Millers turned in a hugely-encouraging performance against Premier League Leicester City at rain-lashed AESSEAL New York Stadium.

A first-half goal from Carlton Morris and one late on from Michael Ihiekwe saw Paul Warne's side ended their domestic pre-season campaign unbeaten.

Rotherham were disciplined and determined and were never scared to take the game to a quality Foxes outfit.

With Leicester looking every inch a top-flight side, Warne's men fell behind in the 12th minute lead when Kelechi Iheanacho was played in to shot home from well inside the penalty area.

It was the only time Daniel Iversen was beaten in the first half despite the best attempts of Iheanacho seven minutes afterwards, Demarai Gray on 25 minutes and Ashley Barnes, twice, as the interval approached.

The young Danish goalkeeper, signed on a season-long loan did everything right against his parent club, pulling off sharp saves every time he was asked to.

Against classy opposition, Rotherham refused to lie down and produced some good play of their own.

They were level after 38 minutes when Kyle Vassell ended a powerful run by slipping a perfectly-weighted ball through to Carlton Morris who clipped the ball past Danny Ward as the visiting keeper came off his line.

Barnes lost out to Iversen yet again at the start of the second half but it was the Millers who were doing most of the pressing and, in a sustained period of attacking, Vassell had an effort ruled out for offside.

However, the home side fell behind again in the 72th minute when a poor header from Michael Ihiekwe caused trouble behind him and Iheanacho eventually fired home from around 15 yards.

Ihiekwe made amends in the 81st minute as he headed against the bar and scored from the rebound and only referee Martin Coy's decision not to award a penalty for a blatant trip on Matthew Olosunde soon after prevented a probable Rotherham victory.

New signing Jamie Lindsay came on in the second half to make his debut on an excellent afternoon for the Millers.
