The Millers had looked a top-six side in their 2-0 win at high-flying Ipswich Town on Wednesday.

But their exploits at Portman Road clearly had a draining effect on their display on a frustrating afternoon at AESSEAL New York Stadium against Wycombe Wanderers.

Hard-working Wanderers took an early lead and kept Rotherham at bay so well that the home side never managed an effort on target.

A win would have moved Paul Warne's men into seventh spot but it was the visitors celebrating at the end as they rose to second.

Rotherham, beaten 2-1 on their own turf by Oxford United a week ago, fell behind after five minutes when a ball over the top caught them out and Scott Kashket skipped through to slot the ball past Daniel Iversen.

The Millers' clearest sight of goal came after 25 minutes when winger Chiedozie Ogbene, making his first start for the club, sped past Jack Grimmer down the left and crossed for Michael Smith who directed a free header wide.

Kashket tried his luck on the stroke of half-time but this time Iversen was equal to his low shot, diving to his left to push the ball away.

In a second period as scrappy as the first, Rotherham pressed but never threatened an equaliser and dropped two places in the table to 11th.

Iversen saved superbly from Matt Bloomfield on 82 minutes after a rare second-half Wycombe foray into Millers territory.

Two minutes later, the ball hit Ogbene's head in a goalmouth scramble and flew over the bar.

That was as close as Rotherham came to a second-half leveller on an afternoon to forget.
