ROTHERHAM'S Labour candidates have set out their election pledges as the general election campaign got underway in the Town.

Labour candidate for Rother Valley, Kevin Barron said: "Labour's investment in the NHS has brought about massive changes to healthcare - reduced waiting times, a choice of where to go for treatment and our new walk-in GP health centres.

"With a Labour government this investment would continue, so if for example your

GP suspects cancer, you'll be guaranteed to see a specialist within two weeks and get your test results in a week."

Labour candidate for Rotherham, Denis MacShane, said: "If the Tories win the clock turns back to the Rotherham of the 80's and 90's - job losses and businesses closing. The Tories have made it clear that the Sure Start Children's Centres in all our communities would close and the allowances and benefits that Labour's brought in for pensioners would come under huge pressure."

Labour candidate for Wentworth and Dearne, John Healey said: "I'm proud to have served our area as Labour MP for 13 years and I always remember that I work for you. Together we've won many campaigns - including bringing extra investment for jobs in the Dearne and getting money back from solicitors for ex-miners.

"I've always worked hard to link local concerns with national decisions - like building new council housing and introducing free bus travel for pensioners. But there's still much more to do for our area, that's why I'm asking for your support for Labour at the Election."

The handing in of nomination forms is a legal requirement and ensures the candidates' names appear on voters ballot papers.
